GWENDA HURST MEMORIAL LECTURE


Annual Gwenda Hurst Medal

 

Lecture

The Gwenda Hurst Memorial lecture is held in November each year to commerate Gwenda Hurst one of the founder members of the Association. In the early 1970's a Gwenda Hurst Memorial Medal was first awarded to the student who attained the highest mark at Higher Leaving Certificate Geography.

 

The medal is awarded annually at the Gwenda Hurst Lecture in TCD and the winner for 1997 was Olivia Cregg, Ballyhaunis Community School, Co Mayo.

 

The 1998 winner was:

Ciaran McCausland

St Ciarans Community School

Navan Road, Kells, Co Meath.

Ciaran was presented with the medal at the Gwenda Hurst Memorial lecture on November 18th 1998. The speaker for the night was Frank Magee, Chief Executive of Dublin Tourism, who spoke on 'The Development of Dublin as a Tourist Destination'.

The lecture was most interesting and greatly enjoyed by all - leading to a lively question and answer session.

Ciarans teacher - Gerard O'Sullivan - was also present, as were Ciarans parents.

Ciaran is at present studying Environmental Science in Galway University.
