SPECIAL NEEDS We have 10 children in need of special help. These children are given an opportunity to work independently with computers.

Rationale:
Why Does our School Need Computers?
Carrigeen has been to the forefront since 1985 in computer technology.
To involve active participation of teachers and children.
To enable children to be familiar with IT.
To enhance learning develop good communication skills necessary in the world of technology.
To enhance independent learning.
To develop keyboard skills.
For modifying, editing and presentation of information incorporating language, images, numbers and sound.
We believe every child has the right to the best available skills.

ADVANTAGES:
Ease of use

Disadvantages:
Insufficient Software.
Insufficient number of PC's per class and child
Lack of funding for purchasing suitable software.
Time constraints.
Lack of knowledge by staff.
Etc.

Health and Safety: Nobody is expected to remain in front of the monitor for long periods.
A shield will be placed in front of monitor.
A comfortable stance should be adopted.

GOALS:

IT will act as an additional tool in Art , Maths, History, Geography
E-Mail , extending Comenius project.

Infrastructure:
Three classes have computers and software.
Third to sixth class have internet access.

Each room will have PC's.
Browsing only under supervision
E-mailing replies etc.

Maintenance:
Principal take responsibility for normal maintenance.
Senior girls or boys sort out trouble shooting for other staff members.

Teachers have attended summer courses and may take further courses if willing.
