This is a particularly pretty drive and will take you the best part of a day to complete, obviously dependent on how long it takes you to admire each area along the way.

This shot across the Valley has a shock of gorse in the foreground, it is a very prevalent plant in the mountainous areas around the town. Very pretty while in bloom but a nuisance when found on farmland where it can establish itself very quickly if not attended to immediately. It thrives on the stony and marshy ground found on and around mountainous regions. |

Any of you who know Clogheen or have passed through it at some stage will recognise the hairpin bend on the Lismore / Cappoquin road known as the Vee. This area is synonymous with Clogheen and the views of the valley from this vantage point are awesome. |

The very famous Baylough, at its most scenic when the rhododendrons are in full bloom in May and June. |

When you move past Bealough over the mountain pass you can travel via Lismore or Cappoquin onward to Dungarvan. The Lismore drive is particularly pretty and Lismore Castle is worth a visit.

Stream on Lismore Road |

A nice picture of one of the many clear streams to be found in and around the Clogheen region. This particular one is passed on the road to Lismore. This road is extremely beautiful and is a must see if you have a car and are touring the Clogheen area. It is particularly splendid in the early summer when the rhododendron is in bloom and all the trees start to build up their mass of plumage. Trees overhang both sides of this road giving a very majestic feel to the area and the air tinged with the perfume of wild trees, shrubs and flowers is among the most fragrant you will come across anywhere in the world. When you get to Lismore, 15 miles from Clogheen you may wish to visit Lismore Castle, a remarkably well preserved reminder of times of yore, along with its wonderful gardens. You may also like to visit the golf course here, it is in a most pleasant setting and is renowned as one of the best courses in the area. Not a mean feat as there are many good courses within a few miles of Clogheen. |
Travelling onwards to Dungarvan, take a right turn on the roundabout entering the town and follow the signs for Helvic Head.

Those of you who have an interest in all types of fishing or who simply like a variety in the scenery an area has to offer may be interested in visiting the sea which is just 45 minutes drive from Clogheen. This picture was taken in Helvic Head, Co. Waterford on a sharp spring day in April. The sea is just a little choppy and the fresh maritime air really makes the senses tingle. You have to visit it to appreciate just how envigourating this part of the country is, and it is completely unspoilt to boot. |
On your return journey take a right turn at the Master McGrath monument and travel over the Nire Valley toward Clonmel, this is a particularly beautiful drive. You may return via Newcastle, a left turn after Ballymacarbry, or continue onward turning left at the T junction to return to Clogheen via Ardfinnan.
Should you have time a trip to Dungarvan town is also well worth a visit, it is a historic town and boasts a wonderful harbour area.
