We need your help. There are three things you can do:
1. Do you have any information that may help us, if so contact us at gad@iol.ie
2. Contact Fianna Fail - particularly your local TD - as they want to be in power next time and as yet have not formulated a party policy regarding emigrant voting rights. In the past Fianna Fail have been a disgrace towards the Irish abroad, but pressure will tell and the more that they see of the Irish abroad wanting to be involved the less the chance they have of ignoring the issue. Dont e-mail their web site, its ineffective, contact your local TD and more importantly, get a family member at home to contact them.
3. Ireland is the only country in Europe not to grant their emigrants some form of voting rights, we cant let them get away with this. We are looking for the following information:
The European parliament discussed voting rights for emigrants in their home country in 1991 (21 May) and produced an interim report. The reference numbers being Doc EN\RR\110690, A3-0152, PE 140.104/fini. We need to know has there been any movement on this issue - we need facts and dates - and who is in charge of this. Do you know anybody involved in the European parliament who can help? We don't have the original report but we need to avail of this opportunity and find out how we can push this forward.
If you are an emigrant who wants to vote in Irish elections, then its up to you, GET INVOLVED !
