Why
PDF Format?
This format
preserves fonts,formatting,calours, and graphics. Use the free Adobe Acrobat
Reader to view, print and navigate PDF files exactly as intended by the
author . This format is ideal for distributing and sharing papers and
reports. PDF has become an extremely popular way to distribute academic
papers.
Ease of Navigation
Scroll Bar
Click on
the Scroll Box in the Scroll Bar and flag it up or down to move quickly
through the document.
Straight Page Jumps
At the bottom of your Acrobat Screen, click on the Page
Button. A Pop Up menu enables you to move immediately to any page
BOOKMARKS
Use Acrobat's View Menu to change from Page Only to Bookmarks
and Page. A set of bookmarks appears in the left margin - useful to give
a rapid overview of the document.
A small triangle
to the left of a topic indicates sub-bookmarks. Click on the triangle
to see sub-menus. If you find Bookmarks take up too much monitor space,
go back to View and return to Page Only.
SEARCH FEATURES
To find
a word, simply hit either Control-f (Windows) or Command-f
(Mac) to bring up the Acrobat Find window. Select options and hit the
Find button. If you'd like to find the next occurrence of `terrible sonnets'
just hit either Control-g (Windows) or Command-g (Mac).
You'll go to the next occurrence without having to waste time having to
pop up the Find window again. You can print pages in the usual fashion.

MAGNIFICATION
Generally speaking the best magnification to view the archive
is 100%. But if you want to adjust this, look down to the bottom of the
Acrobat software's screen. Click and hold. Select the magnification you
prefer. If you are working on a small monitor (15 - 17 inch screen): To
make words as large as possible, maximize Hopkins Archive window so that
it takes up the whole monitor screen. Then click and choose `Fit visible'.
Experiment with different settings. Page Display Layout Just to the right
of the magnification setting, you can click on display settings. You can
display one page in a document at a time, or opt for a continuous display
with pages displayed in a continuous vertical column for easy scrolling,or,
Continuos - Facing pages which arranges pages to appear side by side.
This is ideal with a huge monitor.

for PDF format documents:

(such as AltaVista, Google and HotBot) ignore files in other formats such
as the Portable Document Format (PDF) format. Adobe's PDF is the standard
for electronic document distribution, You can access this rich document

summaries from more than a million PDF documents. Click the links on the
search results page to check out the summary. You may then download the
document or view it online.
