F & M Update and Alternate Race Strategy During the present Foot and Mouth disease crisis, the Irish Mountain Running Association is following the Irish government guidelines and not organising races in the hills until given the all clear to do so. With that in mind, any provincial championship or Irish Championship race will be postponed automatically until a later date, assuming the race falls due before the rolling all clear date.
Here are the initial alternate races based on the fact that the locations will not prove a hazard to farm animals. Distances will be decided shortly.
If anyone else has ideas for alternate race routes with minimal road sections, please contact us at As soon as the Foot & Mouth crisis is over, the calendar of races will revert to that published on the official 2001 mountain running calendar which is also shown on the site web site. Go to 2001 calendar.
At present, the rolling all clear date is six weeks after the last case of this disease is flagged. The current all clear date would be the 6th May, based on the Co. Louth case - the only one so far in Ireland. We hope it stays that way!
However, we are offering and intend to offer alternative races to our summer Leinster League series. The dates and start times will be unchanged, but the venues will be different.
