Yesterday's second running of the Irish Schools Mountain Running Championships at St. Columbas College, Rathfarnham, Co. Dublin attracted more than 350 entries and saw Blackrock College's Robert Connolly retain the Senior title. The determined efforts on the stiff climb of De La Salle's Eamon O'Connor ensured he led at the turn high on Kilmashogue Mountain from Connolly and seasoned international Mark Doyle (Ringsend). Connolly used his superior descending skills to pull back O'Connor's advantage and take the win with Doyle coming through to take silver.

Lanesboro's Amanda Hanly easily fended off the attentions of Anne Marie Gilsenan (Oldcastle) and Catherine McKeon (Greenhills) to take the Senior Girls title. Peter Dalton (Oatlands) and Sheila Coyle (Drogheda) won the Intermediate while Jason O'Brien (Wilsons Hospital) and Aideen Broe (Dominican, Wicklow) took the Junior titles.
