Wicklow Way Relay

Leg 6

Drumgoff to Iron Bridge

From the Hotel car park go back to the crossroads. Turn left down a little hill and continue until the trees start on the right hand side. Turn right onto the forest tract as indicated by the WW signs. The track zigzags up the hill a few times. Watch for WW signs at junctions. It then levels out and goes down a little. There is a sharp right turn off onto a small rough track at a sweeping bend to the right. (If you see a yellow and black bar across the track, stop and turn back. You have to turn sharp left just after the sweeping left-hand bend).

Continue straight up on this rough track across following the WW signs. This will cross over a forest road and another track. It continues up to the top of a slope and then levels off a bit. Eventually, you come out onto a wide forest road, turn right up the hill. It is a bit of a slog up to the top. Continue along the top to a sharp left-hand turn. This is a nice down hill section. When it levels out just before the road, the WW signs point to the right but that way is quite rough and mucky. If you go straight on down to the road and turn right you miss out the muck. Watch out for traffic. It is about the same distance. The WW continues just on the right hand side of the road.

Go on down the hill until the trees start on the left-hand side. Take the second forest track entrance on the left. It is well marked by WW signs. Go straight on up following the WW signs to the top of the ridge. Turn right at the top onto a rough track in a ride through the trees. If the ground is wet, it will be slippy. Continue on down a steep section until you see another forest track on the left. It is well marked by WW signs. The track veers around towards the left and is mostly downwards. You come out on a narrow road, watch out for traffic. Turn right down along the road. There is a wide dirt track on the left that is well marked by WW signs. Turn left onto this, it is quite steep downhill.

At the bottom, turn right and then left over the Iron Bridge to stage end, well done!
