Welcome to Senior Infants
Andy Warhol
We learned about Andy Warhol and then did our own Pop Art.
Clarinbridge Christmas Art Competition
Congratulations to Roisin and Kaylyn who came first and second in the Clarinbridge Christmas Art competition. They are in Senior Infants. Ms. Downes is so proud of us all for taking part in the competition.
Christmas Angels
We used our hands to print the wings of our Christmas Angels and also the body of the angel. It was so much fun because it was so messy. We also painted cones for under our Christmas Trees.
Santa Mobiles
To get us all in the mood for Christmas, we coloured and constructed large Santa Claus mobiles. They took us a while to complete, but aren't they amazing! We all played with our Santas and gave them their own personalities. We had so much fun! Sixth class very kindly gave some of their time to help us cut out the mobiles and to get the legs and arms working on our Santas.
Thank you sixth class and a special word of thanks to their teacher Ms. O'Callaghan for allowing them to help us.
Drama - Jack and The Beanstalk
We dramatised the classic fairytale Jack and The Beanstalk. Our Mummies and Daddies helped us to pick out costumes and we made our own props too. Everyone had a part in our play, so we all felt very important. We are going to practise it over the next few weeks so that we get better and better at our lines. We caught Ms. Downes having a great laugh at us when all the Jacks had to hug their mothers at the end of the play!
It's A Bugs Life
It certainly is a bug's life. First we painted our bugs and then we attached the head and antennae. Our bugs are happy in the rain surrounded by our beautiful flowers.
Butter Making
For our Science Class, we made butter. Miss Morrissey and Ms. Downes gave us all ricecakes with our own homemade butter. Yummy!
Singing
Singing in Senior Infants is a very important part of our day. It cheers us all up when we burst into song. We have learned so many songs such as The Bare Necessities, Never Smile At A Crocodile, You're a Pink Toothbrush and Cuigear Fear.
Pointilism
We learned about Pointilism in Senior Infants. We learned that Pointilism is an original form of art created by George Seurat. Pointilism is a bunch of tiny dots formed together to make a picture. We created our own Pointilist fish which were then displayed on a seascape background. We hope you like our fish.
Above you will see two paintings by Georges Seurat.
A Little Information on Georges Seurat
Georges-Pierre Seurat was born on Dec. 2, 1859, in Paris. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1878 and 1879. His teacher was a disciple of Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres. Young Seurat was strongly influenced by Rembrandt and Francisco de Goya. He was the founder of the 19th-century French school of Neo-Impressionism whose technique for portraying the play of light using tiny brushstrokes of contrasting colours became known as Pointillism. Using this techique, he created huge compositions with tiny, detached strokes of pure colour too small to be distinguished when looking at the entire work but making his paintings shimmer with brilliance. Works in this style include Une Baignade (1883-84) and Un dimanche après-midi à l'Ile de la Grande Jatte (1884-86).
A French painter who was a leader in the neo-impressionist movement of the late 19th century, Georges Seurat is the ultimate example of the artist as scientist. He spent his life studying color theories and the effects of different linear structures. His 500 drawings alone establish Seurat as a great master, but he will be remembered for his technique called pointillism, or divisionism, which uses small dots or strokes of contrasting color to create subtle changes in form.
Spooky Forest
We created a very spooky Halloween display called Spooky Forest. We painted scary backgrounds and stuck on these very scary witches, cats, ghosts and spiders.
Boo!
Haunted Houses
Do you like the Haunted Houses which we coloured? Look out for the bats and ghosts.
Happy Halloween!
Owl Babies
Our teacher read the book Owl Babies to us in class. We loved the story. We then coloured in our own owls and out teacher made a display of our owls on a display board. She also added words which are used to describe a good book.
