Project on Endangered Animals

CONGRATULATIONS Cannelton and DeWadden Schools in USA and Netherlands for winning 2nd place with this project in the CyberFair Awards '98 and to all in NDNSP who took part in the project.

First Class

First Class (aged 7 and 8) have begun work on an international project on Endangered Animals and will be posting the results of their work here. They have chosen the Red Squirrel and the Corncrake as their two endangered animals and will be researching these in the next few weeks.

They have already contacted the Irish Wildlife Foundation and are really grateful for all the information they sent. They are also looking for information in books and on the internet.

Live Global Chat

We took part in a global chat today (Friday 13th) when 4th class and a few children from 1st class chatted to children from South Africa, Australia, USA, Germany and Holland. The children from the NDNSP were able to use the information they had learnt through their projects and were able to answer questions about a lot of different endangered animals. They did the typing themselves and we all enjoyed the discussion very much. We hope to have more of these chats in the future. Thanks to Rene and Joan for setting up and monitoring the chat line so efficiently.

We had another chat on World Earth Day (22nd April). This time we were set a task which was to find out about dolphins. We surrounded ourselves with encylopedias and as the children discovered facts for themselves they typed them in. We promised to do more research today and the children did a search on the internet and then edited the material they found. Here is our report. See where we got a special mention in the project newsletter.

On the 13th May we linked up with Rene to discuss the plight of the Rainforests and the way that animal and plant life has been endangered through the constant cutting down of trees. Joanna in our school suggested we do a report and here it is!

Thanks again to Rene and Joan and plans are for a video conferencing session next so watch this space! Also the chat will be published on the Tenan Website soon.

Meanwhile, lots of info on the project website.

Interested in nature? Why not look at some tree pictures by 3rd class done during National Tree Week.

4th Class Report on Rainforests

The ENFO pages are also very interesting.

Why not look at a web site on Interesting Animals which was developed by Miles High Family School.
