Walking Festival
|
| On Saturday 20 October 2001 the Glen
of Aherlow Fáilte Society will hold a one-day Walking Festival.
Having had to cancel their annual two day event in April the Society
are delighted to be able to run with a one-day Festival in October.
There will be 3 grades of Walks, A, B & C. The A Walk, on Galtees,
is for the very experienced walker covering 16km and a total climb
of 1200m; (Advance booking is required for the A Walk). The B Walk,
on Galtees, will take you 10km with a total climb of 800m; The C
Walk is low level walk across the Slievenamuck Hills and Glen of
Aherlow Valley.
On Saturday night we will hold a "Galtee Hooley" in the Glen Hotel,
the evening starts at 8.30pm with a slide show by Jimmy Barry with
some fascinating scenes of the Galtees and Glen of Aherlow Valley.
As in the past at the slide show we will hold a voluntary collection
for South East Mountain Rescue who provide such a tremendous service
in the south-east. Following will be an evening of Music & Song
with two of Tipperary's best loved performers, singer/songwriter
Nick McCarthy from Bansha and Philip Donnelly who has performed
internationally with many well-known bands. This promises to be
a great evening and one not to be missed.
Brochures for the Walking Festival on 20 October are available
from The Glen of Aherlow Fáilte Society Ltd, Coach Road,
Aherlow, Co. Tipperary. Contact Helen Morrissey Tel: 062 56331 or
