Club La Santa

Another first for our swimmers

Each squad will have the opportunity to celebrate the 21^st anniversary St. Pauls Swimming Club in a unique way. Many of the swimmers on our National Squad had a once in a lifetime experience at a swim camp abroad.

Our National Squad. coached by Mary Garvey, travelled for the clubs first outdoor long course training camp to Club la Santa in Lanzarote. In total 21 members travelled for a memorable 8 days training.

Training consisted of pool training, land training, video analysis and race preparation. Swimmers trained in an outdoor fifty metre pool for two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon. Land training consisted of a one hour session each day. The conference room was available to swimmers each day for race preparation and video analysis.

The Belgium National Team were at the same venue preparing for the Olympic Games.

Congratulations go to our swimmers, Amanda Wynn, Sarah Sheehan, Eleanor Hogan, Claire Hogan, Catherine Garvey, Michelle Claffey, Deirdre Mc Donald, Niall Molloy, Eoghan Healy, Keira Doyle, Matthew Jolley, Vincent Byrne, Damien O Malley, Stephen Delaney, & Daragh Crowley who completed an excellent weeks work.

Leeds Masters Gala

Congratulations to all our swimmers

37 medals were collected by a gallant band of our masters swimmers at the City of Leeds Masters Gala at the end of April and the start of May 1999. The performance outshines our previous at the City of Leeds Masters Gala and was a well-deserved reward for the great effort. A detailed result will be available in the July newsletter.

14 gold, 6 silver and 17 bronze medals were gallantly displayed by a hard working band of swimmers. 20 of the medals were achieved in the gruelling 400m F/S, 400m I.M , 800m F/S and 1500m F/S. Spare a thought for Lynn O Neill who competed in the 1500m F/S on her first gala having joined the masters just a year ago.
